The module "Techniques of Electrical Control" aims to provide students with fundamental knowledge necessary for designing a motorization system (motor and power electronics) for a variable speed drive, meeting a predefined set of specifications, based on either direct current or alternating current machines.

The main objectives of this course are as follows:

  1. Acquire fundamental knowledge: Students will learn essential concepts related to electrical control, including the operating principles of direct current and alternating current motors, as well as power electronics. They will also understand the different components of a motorization system and their role in the overall system.
  2. Design a motorization system: Students will be able to design a motorization system based on a predefined set of specifications. They will learn to select the appropriate type of motor for the specific application and to dimension the required power electronics to ensure the proper functioning of the system.
  3. Dimension PID controllers: Students will be introduced to the design of PID (Proportional, Integral, Derivative) controllers used for the control of electrical machines. They will learn to dimension these controllers according to the specifications of the set of specifications, using suitable methods and simulation tools.
  4. Evaluate and compare performance: Students will explore different control strategies used in electrical systems. They will learn to evaluate and compare the performance of these strategies in terms of stability, accuracy, responsiveness, and energy efficiency. This will enable them to select the most suitable strategy for each specific application.

In conclusion, this module will enable students to acquire the necessary skills to design, dimension, and control electrical motorization systems that meet specific requirements. They will be able to evaluate the performance of different control strategies and select the most appropriate one for each application.
