This course provides a comprehensive foundation in industrial machine surveillance and diagnostics, combining theoretical concepts with practical analytical tools. It begins with failure mode analysis, covering general concepts of faults, their identification and confirmation through functional, qualitative, and quantitative approaches, as well as maintenance strategies such as systematic, condition-based, and predictive monitoring using vibration, ultrasound, oil analysis, acoustic, and thermal techniques. The course also addresses machine condition assessment, fault recognition, alarm establishment, and detection of defects in key components such as bearings, shafts, pulleys, and gears. In addition, it develops structured diagnostic methodologies based on system analysis tools such as block diagrams, functional chains, logical equations, and timing diagrams, together with a global approach for fault localization, identification of defective elements, and the application of self-diagnostic procedures. Overall, the course equips students with the skills required to monitor equipment health, detect anomalies early, and systematically diagnose failures to enhance reliability and maintenance efficiency in industrial systems.
